Overview
Home care nursing is one of the most demanding professions in the healthcare field.  How patient care is managed is important to everyone involved.  It is important to us that your agency and staff are in compliance with the standards of all laboratory specimen collections.  If standards are not met, there are many ways a patients lab results may become compromised.  Most errors in specimen collections are during the collection process. Errors in specimen collection may result in legal action against the individual causing harm, or the institution employing the individual.

This training is excellent for any new home care nurse or nurses new to home care in general. There will be also be a hands-on portion to practice proper techniques!

This training provides an overview of techniques in phlebotomy basics for clinical assessments, annual review training, and other educational competencies.  The intended audience for this training is any clinical professional trained in venipuncture.  The educators of Columbus Outpatient Collection Center/Columbus Academy of Clinical Education (CACE) will facilitate and oversee this clinical assessment and training.

Successful completion of this training will provide:

  1. Advanced techniques and procedures in the proper collection of blood in home environments.
  2. The importance of maintaining specimen integrity during and after collection.
  3. The knowledge to prevent pre-analytical errors as it relates to obtaining erroneous test results (handling of tubes prior to collection)
  4. Understanding proper specimen handling during processing and transport to maintain specimen integrity.
  5. New regulations and standard protocols.

Continental breakfast are included in the registration fee.  Registration opens at 8:30am.
