Overview

OASIS D
includes an array of changes, including omission of several very familiar items and addition of several new items. Agencies will need to determine how they will maintain best practices and collect vital information without items such as pressure ulcer risk and pain assessment. The expansion of the one clinician rule and Medicare’s continued plans to make home health assessment like all the other post-acute settings requires a new look at agency policies on collaboration. Home health agency administrators, directors, clinicians, and QA staff need to know the impact of the new and changed items that OASIS-D brings.  This program will assist you and your agency staff to navigate through the myriad of changes to the guidance and get you up to speed on the latest on OASIS, and how your practice will be impacted.  Attendees will review the most up to date OASIS guidance, including the impact of the expansion of the one clinician rule, the updates to the CoPs regarding resumption of care, as well as updates to payment for 2019 and planned changes to payment in 2020.  In-depth scenarios and a review of individual OASIS items will provide attendees with a comprehensive and applied understanding of OASIS to ensure success.
This workshop explains what you need to know, what you need to do and how to do it.  The most accurate OASIS means the right POC, the right outcomes and the right payment.  There will be plenty of scenarios and documentation examples to set things straight.  The key to accurate payment and to accurate outcomes depends on answering the OASIS data items accurately and according to CMS instructions.  This program includes not only the CMS based interpretations but also timely advice on operationally implementing all aspects of OASIS.
This 2-day workshop is intended to support the home health clinician's understanding and accuracy in OASIS data collection, and provide a preparatory review for candidates for the optional OASIS Certification Exams (see info box below).  It is recommended that you attend the Ohio Dept. of Health OASIS training as a prerequisite to this workshop.

Program Goals:
 1.  Identify three purposes of OASIS-D and data obtained from the collection of OASIS.
 2.  Recognize the importance of meeting OASIS time frame requirements.
 3.  Explain OASIS-D Conventions, including changes to the one clinician rule.
 4.  Identify key items changes in OASIS D including new GG and J items, deleted M items, and changes in guidance for existing M items.
 5.  Identify OASIS-D items important in process measurement and risk adjustment, and key changes in these areas.
 6.  Identify correct assessment strategies for answering Clinical, Functional, and Service Utilization data items.
 7.  Use an OASIS assessment to identify correct answers to data items.
 8.  Identify strategies for understanding the impact of OASIS-D items on risk adjustment, outcomes measurement, and future payment adjustments.
